New Online Store

I've finally got around to updating my online store and switching over to using Big Cartel. I'm going to add new bits every now and then and hopefully even a few originals and sculpts. This is only a small amount of available works, so if there is something else you are after then it's best to still contact Eyeball Kicks Gallery in NZ.
Take a look at the store here

Opening night!

Last Friday was the opening of my latest solo show 'Aspects of Syncretism' at Eyeball Kicks Gallery in Wellington NZ.
I had an amazing night and it was nice to finally meet up with loyal supporters and some good friends. The show will stay up for one more week and there are still handful of pieces up for purchase. You can view the available pieces on the online presale HERE.
I also produced a limited edition print run of the 'Man-Dirim' especially for the show. They are signed and numbered and are retailing for only $35.
There is also a VERY limited run of hand made plushies retailing at only $40 each. Both the prints and plushies can be purchased directly through Eyeball kicks.
A special shout out to the talented photographer Ashley Church from Dinosaurtoast who came along and took the great pics of the show. To view all the photos from the opening night click HERE.
So a few days rest ahead and then straight back into it with a new collection of sculpts for the next New York Comic Con, so check back for progress pics.

Aspects of Syncretism

I'm Back!

After a huge move and travel I'm now settled in with a new studio setup in Melbourne Australia.

As I mentioned in my last blog, id been drawing my way around South East Asia. Next week I'll be exhibiting this work in a solo show at Eyeball Kicks Gallery in Wellington NZ.
The show is titled 'Aspects of Syncretism' and inspired by the eclectic religions, mythology and theology that I was exposed to during my travels.. Oh by the way...

Sycnretism = the attempted reconciliation or union of different or opposing principles, practices, or parties, as inphilosophy or religion.

The show will be made up of original framed ink drawings, prints, and plushies and all in Black and white.

The night will kick of at 7pm on Friday the 28th of June at 177 Cuba street. I hope to see you there!
For enquiries about artwork availability you can contact Eyeball Kicks directly here.

Still alive!

Sorry, it's been a while that since i've been on this blog, but just thought i'd give you all a quick update.
So my time in Berlin came to an end in Dec 2012. It was time for a change and a new start and my wife and I wanted to get some more travelling done before setting up in our new base in Melbourne Australia.
I've taken the last month off from work which has been great as the last couple of years have been non stop. I've got another busy year booked ahead but am inspired again and can't wait to get my new studio set up in April and get things rolling. Until then I'll be drawing my way around south east asia. My latest stop is China Beach inVietnam. More to come soon.

Bewitching II at Stranger Factory Gallery

I currently have a new piece as part of the Bewitching II show at the Stranger Factory gallery.
This is their annual group show and is packed with great art and artists including Brandt Peters, Kathie Olivas, Amanda Louise Spayd, Travis Louie and Gris Grimly to name just a few.
The piece is titled 'The Masquerade' and stands around 60cm tall. It contains 8 hand sculpted and painted characters which come cased in a customised vintage clock body with an internal light.
Availability and pricing can be found here on the online presale.

Comic Con New York

I've just returned from the NewYork Comic Con which was an incredibly mind-blowing experience with 116,000 people attending and the worlds best comic, toy and movie companies all packed into the NY Javits convention centre.
I was showing my work in the Strychnin Gallery booth alongside Skeleton Heart, Cliff Wallace, Mimi S, The New English and Daniel Van Nes. Our booth recieved great feedback, and people were excited to see original art work and something a little different from the conventional comics and products.

Below are some pics of a piece which I made exclusively for the CCNY. This piece came in a custom-made display box and the character came with interchangeable arms and head to convert him into a zombie. I'm happy to say that this piece has gone to a good home to a collector in NY.

I also designed this poster for the NYCC. I still have a few left and will be uploading them onto my Etsy store in the next week. The poster is based on the DC comic's Justice League but in Colonial American times ;)

Also here are a few pics to give you an idea of the Strychnin Booth as well as the over all Comic Con. For more pics you can check out my facebook here.

NZ School Journal

Earlier this year I did the illustrations for a story in one of the NZ school journals. These are the books that all the kids have to read at school as part of their curriculum.
The story basically goes like this...... The kids parents go away for the weekend, the creepy old lady neighbor comes to babysit, she makes a massive feed for herself then turns into a cocoon, then the kids kill her with bug spray.
I'm still unsure about the educational message in this story, but nice to see the times are changing as the stories and pictures were ALOT different when I was kid ;)

The Emporium Opening

Last Friday was the opening of the Emporium show. Thanks to all who came out and supported the show. I was pretty pleased at how my pieces looked all set up as it was the first time I got to see it in it's entirety. I think the shelf was actually my favorite thing I made ;)

The show will run for another 3 weeks so if you're around Berlin..I think it's well worth popping in for a look. Here are a few pics of the space. There's more pic of the opening over on my Facebook

Anyway, moving on and straight back into work. I'll be releasing 3 new limited Edition giclee prints at the beginning of July. The sculpture work has been taking up a lot of my time so it's been really nice to get drawing again. I'll post a preview soon ;)
